Design for Manufacture: The Decisions That Cut Unit Cost

A part that looks simple on screen can hide a feature that needs a slower tool, a slower cycle, or a second operation. Every one of those adds seconds to a run. Multiply by ten thousand units and seconds become real money.
The design has not failed. It just has not been translated yet from an idea that works to a part that runs.
Where The Real Cost Lives
Wall thickness is the first lever. A wall that varies by even a millimetre across a part can cause warping, sink marks, or a mould that needs babysitting on the line. Even thickness runs faster and rejects less.
Draft angle is the second. Without it, a part grips the mould on ejection. Grip means longer cycles, more scrap, more hands-on time from an operator who is paid by the hour.
The third is part count. Every extra component is another supplier, another delivery window, another place tolerance can drift. Folding three parts into one, where the physics allows it, often does more for cost than any material substitution.

None of this is guesswork when the person reviewing your design has stood on the factory floor and watched a mould open ten thousand times.
